For 100 years now, HANWAG boots and shoes are known for their exceptional fit. The BUNION category is developed especially for wearers with a hallux valgus. With its specially developed lasts, the Bavarian bootmaker is taking a further step towards offering the perfect fit in its anniversary year. And for all types of feet.
The human foot is a complex structure. Our feet are our very foundation. No other body part is equipped with so many sensors to provide information to the brain about the nature of the ground we walk on. They perform an extraordinary function on a daily basis – up to three times our body weight is loaded on them as we move. The arch, ligaments and muscles all work together to cushion and absorb the load. However, should any of the bones become misaligned, this can quickly lead to serious problems and painful discomfort. Wearing the right kind of footwear reduces the formation of misalignments and relieves the pressure on the foot as it goes about its daily business.
Hallux Valgus, or bunions, are one of the most common foot conditions. Many people, very often women, boulderers and sport climbers – suffer when their big toe moves out of place and the big toe joint becomes stiff. Bunions are often the result of flat feet or “fallen arches”, which can be caused by wearing shoes that are too small, tight or uncomfortable, like high heels. If a foot is subjected to improper strain or restricted in ill-fitting or unsupportive shoes, then a hallux valgus can develop. The exclusive HANWAG BUNION lasts provide additional room for the big toe joint to allow mountaineers, trekkers, hikers and walkers to go on foot without pain or discomfort.
BUNION TREK LAST
Models with a Bunion Trek Last are based on the sporty shaped last of our popular Tatra trekking boot. The Bunion version of this comfortable trekking last gives extra room at the big toe joint. The Bunion Trek models are extremely comfortable, but still offer a precise fit, specifically for wearers with hallux valgus. These robust, hardwearing boots cover all forms of trekking with a focus on support and sure-footedness – whether in demanding alpine terrain or on a four-week trekking trip with a tent, sleeping bag and heavy pack.
BUNION HIKE LAST
The new Bunion Hike Last is based on the HANWAG StraightFit Last, but is 3 mm wider on the inside and has a reduced heel pitch. In addition to extra room for the big toe joint, the Bunion Hike Last also offers more space for the toes in general. This makes it particularly comfortable for people with hallux valgus and a wider forefoot. The Bunion Hike Last features in HANWAG mid-cut and low-cut models in the Travel and Hike categories. It enables us to produce well-fitting footwear for shorter hikes, walks and active everyday use.
