The new Makra Trek SF Extra GTX is the right boot for longer hikes and multi-day tours with a heavy backpack.
This new addition to the Makra family is specially made using our StraightFit Extra Last. The last combines the generous, wide toe box of the HANWAG StraightFit Last that allows the big toe to assume a straight position with additional room at the forefoot and the ball of the foot area from the HANWAG Wide Last. As such, it provides a good fit for people with a wider forefoot – or who want more space for their big toes. We twin the StraightFit Extra Last here with a outstandingly cushioning PU midsole. And the Vibram Trekking SF outsole with its wide contact surface ensures good sturdiness and stability. The ‘HANWAG 2 Zone Lock’ – a mechanical lace lock – improves the fit at the heel. How? Unlike conventional clamping lace hooks, the mechanical lace lock remains fixed in place and cannot slip unless manually adjusted. The optimised ghilly lacing is a distinctive feature of the Makra family – it runs through textile loops right down into the toe area. This ensures a secure fit at the front of the foot, and good overall stability. And the lacing can be adjusted single-handed. Thanks to the waterproof GORE-TEX membrane, this boot will keep feet dry in wet weather, while the high-quality Perwanger leather is robust, breathable and long lasting.
Aside from its headquarters and workshop in Vierkirchen, Bavaria, HANWAG also has a manufacturing site in Hungary and is partnered with shoemakers in Croatia, Romania, Serbia and in the Allgäu (Germany). Most of these partnerships go back years. By making all its footwear in Europe HANWAG is able to guarantee the highest quality and consistency for its customers. Making footwear in Europe is also about sustainability and responsibility: Having shorter transport routes not only cuts emissions but also ensures the sustainable production of materials can be verified.

From demanding hikes to alpine tours and via ferrate – the addition of the new Makra Trek SF Extra GTX for Autumn/Winter 2023 rounds off the high-performance mountain footwear family. Now there is a Makra model for every type of alpine terrain and each individual foot shape. What do they all have in common? Their unique fit.
For centuries, people have been fascinated by the mountains. Climbing the summits, the ridges and faces, the remote valleys. The search for freedom, sporting challenges, open panoramas, and shared experiences have led us to explore diverse mountain landscapes. And anyone heading “up there”, needs one thing above all else: perfectly fitting footwear that is able to cope with the demands of the terrain.
Following hot on the heels of the Spring 2023 launch of the Makra Pro GTX, Makra Pro Low GTX and Makra Trek GTX models comes the Autumn 2023 launch of the new mountain family member – the Makra Trek SF Extra GTX. Together, the five Makra models cover all areas of alpine activity from demanding hikes to alpine tours and via ferrate. As such, the product family bridges the gap between the HANWAG ‘Trek’ and ‘Rock’ categories. So what do they all have in common? Their unique fit. The tried-and tested ‘Makra fit’ literally wraps around the foot to give outstanding power transfer. As a result, foot and shoe form a single unit from heel to toe.
