Gottstein and Hanwag present the new Yak Loafer: a slipper crafted from yak leather, wool felt, and the eco-friendly Step Zero sole. It combines comfort, high-quality materials, and traditional craftsmanship – perfect for relaxing after a hike.
After a long day in the rain and cold, there is hardly anything more satisfying than taking off your sturdy hiking boots and slipping into soft, warming slippers – exactly what the new Hanwag Yak Loafer was designed for. It combines high-quality, supple yak leather, temperature-regulating wool felt, and the innovative, eco-friendly Step Zero sole. The result is maximum comfort, natural breathability, and an ideal foot climate – perfect for relaxed moments after a hike. The wool felt lining comes from the Tyrolean manufacturer Gottstein, which has been producing premium wool since 1926. The collaboration between Hanwag and Gottstein brings together two heritage brands with over 100 years of craftsmanship and quality. Functional material expertise meets artisanal perfection: the soft yak leather ensures comfort and durability, while the wool felt provides warmth and coziness. The Hanwag loafer collection already includes house and hut slippers made from high-quality wool; the new Yak Loafer expands the range with one of Hanwag’s core competencies: working with premium leather.
STEP ZERO: INNOVATIVE, FUNCTIONAL, ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
The new Step Zero outsole completes the shoe’s sustainable concept and sets benchmarks for forward-looking footwear design. It is made from a mix of renewable and biodegradable materials, including by-products from wheat production. It is robust, flexible, and durable, while also providing a quiet, non-slip walking experience. Fully developed in Switzerland, it guarantees the highest quality standards. The Yak Loafer thus becomes not only a comfort experience but also a statement for sustainable, responsible footwear.
YAK LEATHER – EACH SHOE A UNIQUE PIECE
Yak leather is exceptionally soft and adapts perfectly to the shape of the foot, providing maximum comfort. Its breathable material ensures an optimal foot climate, and thanks to the unique grain pattern, each shoe is a one-of-a-kind piece. Hanwag uses only yak leather from ecological herding in Mongolia. The raw material is refined by long-time partner, Josef Heinen Leather Factory in Germany. The leather meets the Leather Working Group’s “Gold Standard,” a multi-stakeholder initiative setting standards for sustainable, transparent, and responsible leather production.
