Opposites are supposed to attract when it comes to love

The same applies to our love for mountain boots. How else are you going to combine climbing performance and walking comfort? Or make a low-cut shoe that still functions on technically demanding mountaineering tours?

In principle, it’s quite straightforward. You just need years of experience, a large dose of curiosity and the motivation to build the best mountain footwear possible. This is why we have continued to work without stopping until we could find a way to unite these apparently irreconcilable differences.

The HANWAG Ferrata Low and the Ferrata Light Low combine these opposites. We’ll tell YOU here what makes these shoes so special and what makes them different.

The HANWAG FERRATA LOW in detail

Welcome to a new era of mountain footwear

Two years ago, HANWAG launched the Ferrata II – an established classic in a new guise. The new TubeTec Rock sole makes this model much more versatile and some 10% lighter than its predecessor. Designed for extreme via ferratas and alpine rock climbing, the Ferrata II covers a particularly wide field of intended use and offers the perfect blend of stability, performance on rock and comfort.

Alongside the Ferrata II, we are expanding the range of our Alpine category with the new low-cut shoes the Ferrata Low and the Ferrata Light Low, to offer a complete Ferrata product family. These lightweight/ very lightweight approach shoes certainly make no compromises. Why settle for extra weight and clunky designs in return for alpine versatility?

Both low-cut models feature a new one-piece construction. This innovative technology enables the seamless combination of different yarns to build the upper, allowing a more robust material mix and a cleaner appearance.

The highlights of the HANWAG Ferrata Low

  • Futura tongue design: special tongue design better fits the natural anatomy of the foot
  • One-piece upper construction: seamless and made of virtually indestructible polyurethane yarns
  • TubeTec Rock sole unit with Integral Light outsole
  • Heel welt for semi-automatic crampons
  • Robust rubber toe cap

Reading tip: The Hanwag Alpine Experience

A low-cut model for alpine summits

The Ferrata Low opens up a new field for hybrid crampon-compatible low-cut shoes as a lightweight, yet extremely stable and uncompromising “rock” shoe.

This is a shoe for highly proficient, expert alpinists, who have the required strength and fitness to wear a low-cut mountain shoe safely (and benefit from the increased freedom of movement and improved ventilation in return) – even when traversing a snowfield requiring crampons for short periods. Hence the heel welt for a heel bail.

Like the Ferrata II, it’s built on the TubeTec Rock sole platform that combines climbing performance via its stable TPU frame and walking comfort and very good shock absorbency at the heel and the ball of the foot.

The Ferrata Low is also designed specifically to cope with rock and scree, which is why we reinforce it at the critical wear zones with a robust rubber toe cap and make the entire upper using a virtually indestructible polyurethane yarn.

Even lighter: the HANWAG Ferrata Light Low

The HANWAG FERRATA LIGHT LOW in detail

For the HANWAG Ferrata Light Low, we do away with the rubber toe cap to save weight, but keeps the highly abrasion-resistant PU yarns to protect the upper.

This makes the Ferrata Light Low a very lightweight approach shoe for fast ascents and more dynamic use. In spite of its low-cut upper, the Ferrata Light Low offers a high level of support and good torsional stability.

The highlights of the HANWAG Ferrata Light Low

  • Futura tongue design: special tongue design better fits the natural anatomy of the foot
  • One-piece upper construction: seamless and made of virtually indestructible polyurethane yarns
  • TubeTec Rock sole unit with Integral Light outsole
  • Heel welt for semi-automatic crampons
  • With leather or GORE-TEX lining available
